Building
a house is like going backpacking. “I’ll
take that small knife because it doesn’t
weigh much. I’ll take that salt shaker
since it doesn’t weigh much.”
Before you know it you have a 40-lb. pack,
which is excessive. In construction any
one item doesn’t cost that much.
Increasing the tile selection from
$4/square foot to $6/square foot is not a
large expense. Upgrading the carpet from
$17/yard to $21/yard will not break the
camel’s back. That sub-zero refrigerator
at $3,300 will only add a dollar/square
foot. However, if each item is not
carefully budgeted, a construction project
can quickly get out of hand. We can budget
a vacation home for as little as
$150/square foot. This can easily increase
to $200/square foot or more.

We can help the customer to establish a detailed construction budget
breaking the project costs down to 40+
different “line” items such as
foundations, framing, sheetrock,
electrical, etc. We can create a “road
map” of where we are going with costs so
that we know the total cost ramifications
of each bid. Is it in the budget?
To most homeowners the construction of a
house represents the longest string of
check writing they will ever experience in
a lifetime. We can aid with this new-found
stress by explaining every construction
cost so the homeowner knows where each
penny has been spent; and our knowledge of
local construction and long term financing
is invaluable. |
